3. Three spare, unused knives. £45 each new
We purchased the wagon second hand as a trial to see if we could successfully convert from contractor to DIY silage. It proved very successful. It has a high output and requires relatively low HP. We used it mainly behind a 135hp tractor but also with a 100hp tractor when required. Both drove it easily. It is also very fuel efficient. We could easily clear 60 acres of first cut grass silage on a tankful of diesel. It has also been used to harvest lucerne and wholecrop silage.
Runs off 1000rpm PTO but yolk has 540rpm splines. Will still work driven at 540rpm if needed but output is reduced.
It has an auto greaser which works but needs minor attention and some of the pipes are blocked.
Both axles are rigid.
Brakes are in good order.
Bed chain has split, staggered slats which are better than single slats on some models.
No metal detector.
There is a stone trap or they pass between the knives.
The wagon is very simple mechanically and all the main parts are slow moving unlike a forage harvester. Daily routine maintenance is minimal. There is a full set of 37 knives fitted and if kept sharp, will achieve a good chop length. These machines are nothing like they were when first introduced onto the market in the 70’s. We had one, there’s no comparison!
It’s a great piece of kit which I enjoyed using.
